Mama's Call: pilot episode

A son in Lagos calls his mother in the village and hears something he didn't expect.

The story

Tunde works late in a Lagos high-rise. Mama Folake stirs jollof in her village kitchen. He calls her.

Over ten shots that cut between the two places, the call slowly shows that she is losing her memory. You see it when her smile stays but her eyes change.

How it was made

Mama's Call is a pilot episode rendered with Seedance 2.0 inside ShowMaker Studio, with two original characters: Tunde and Mama Folake.

Two character references held through 10 separate shots without the faces drifting. Each location, the Lagos office and the village kitchen, kept its own lighting and color grade.

The emotion comes from pacing and reaction shots instead of lip sync.

What to take from it

When two people talk on the phone, give each location its own light. Cold office blue against a warm kitchen tells the audience where they are on every cut.
